WHY
MAKE A WILL?
Everyone should make a Will even if they have little
to leave. You should take the time to add up the value of your home
and its contents, your car, your life policies, your savings ....
You may be worth more than you think.
Making
a Will:-
- enables you
to decide how your estate is distributed between your family, friends
or charities
- enables you to appoint who you wish to deal with the administration
of the estate
- enables you to appoint guardians for your children if they are
under 18
- provides an opportunity to take steps to minimise taxes payable
on your death
Not making a Will:-
- may leave
your spouse in a difficult position as they may not inherit your
entire estate
- if you are not married but living with your partner, that partner
will not be entitled to your estate
- the people who you would like to deal with the administration
of the estate may not be entitled to do
- no provision can be made for friends or charities
Matters for you to consider before making a Will:-
Funeral wishes
-
burial or cremation
Executors -
who will be responsible for dealing with the administration of your
estate
Guardians -
who will be responsible for taking care of your children if they
are under the age of 18.
Beneficiaries
-
who will you leave your estate to.
The value of
your estate -
it is helpful if you have details of the assets in your estate together
with approximate values. This will enable us to ascertain whether
or not any tax planning would be appropriate - either during your
lifetime or contained in the Will
How Cooper Carter Claremont can help:-
Cooper Carter
Claremont have many years experience in preparing Wills to cover
all circumstances and would be happy to discuss your circumstances
and wishes so a Will can be prepared to meet your own personal requirements.
After an initial
consultation, a draft will be prepared for your consideration. Once
the draft has been approved, arrangements will be made for its signature.
Once the Will has been signed, we offer to keep the original in
safe storage, at no charge, and we will provide you with a signed
copy for your records.
You should review
your Will regularly particularly if your personal or financial circumstances
have changed or if the circumstances of those you wish to benefit
have changed. Marriage and divorce automatically affect an existing
Will.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be any assistance.
